Early summer has been busy with the acquisition of new building materials and working on new items for the house. Through the deconstruction of houses in central Texas, I have acquired some very nice old growth lumber and beautiful flooring.

Recycled Art Fair Showing

April 16th and 17th, Echo Reclamation will be showing some art objects at the Open Space Recycled Art Fair. The fair is held at the Open Space Visitor Center on Coors and the fair times are 10am to 4pm.

Zia

A recent creation is this custom zia made from reclaimed wood.

Hand made from reclaimed wine barrel staves were acquired from a New Mexico winery located here in Albuquerque. The reclaimed lumber is treated to high-light the natural wood grain and bring out the character of this decorative piece. The turquoise stone in the center was obtained from a local stone seller.

The client wanted a decorative piece for a place in his office. After conferring with him and getting the measurements, this piece was created for that special spot. Unfortunately, it was intercepted en-route to the office and is now hanging in his house.

Albuquerque South Valley Reclaimed Wood

A friendly demolition company called me about a 1950’s era garage in Albuquerque’s south valley they were about to bulldoze. We managed to salvage the roof decking and framework. This reclaimed lumber consists of 1”x12” decking (about 1200 sf), nicely seasoned with a rich color and is available for $1 per square foot.

We are glad this salvaged wood is avoiding the landfill and think it will do nicely for your next construction or remodeling project. It has pretty color and could be used for rustic interior wall or for exterior board and batten wall.

200 Old Buildings

A small town in Texas has been forced to condemn about 200 old buildings that have been abandoned. We are talking to town officials about deconstructing and salvaging some of these buildings to keep good material out of their landfill.

Went to a friend’s handmade house on the plains east of Albuquerque yesterday and traded for some hubcaps.
